SurprEYESed!?

Grand Valley has a contract with Ruckus (one of the many online music stores these days) to provide freely downloadable music for its students.

I happened to be browsing the site today, when I saw this:

Those eyes look really familiar, I thought - especially that smaller picture in the bottom-right. In fact, it looks amazing like my sister's eyes. And it turns out they are:

Well then - looks like my girlfriend and my sister are famous now!

Fun With Spacescapes

Abstract Inverse Solar System

My first attempt at a spacescape. I wasn't trying to make it realistic by any means, and, in fact, I don't think the outer ring (first ring I did) was even supposed to be a planet until I made the texture for it and was like hey now. Then I added a moon and sun and called it a day.

Binary

This was my first actual attempt at a 'realistic' scene. The one small, blue-green planet ended up looking like earth, so I made it inhabited by intelligent life by throwing some lights on the dark side. The planets on this one still bother me, though. It looks like I just kind of threw them wherever, which is kind of what I did. The starry background is pretty boring too. Even so, I think I did a pretty good job on this one.

Purple Eidolon

My most recent attempt. :-) This one, I believe, has a far more realistic feel - even though it's all purple. What was nice is that it didn't even take as long as the previous one to complete. I also gained a bit of experience airbrushing this time around!

Microsoft Office 2007 Professional Plus [Beta 2]

The above is what I am posting this blog with. I am actually very impressed with the functionality, ease of use, and (get this) innovation. Even though I know Microsoft is simply responding to the OpenOffice.org threat, I still have to congratulate them on a job well done.

If you really want to annoy someone...

Simply disagree with every reasonable statement they make.
Katie: It's raining outside.
Matt:  No, it's not.
Matt:  What if I disagreed with every obviously correct
       statement you made?
Katie: It would get really annoying.
Matt:  No, it wouldn't.

Penny's Dad is Alvar Hanso

Desmond's girfriend is Penny (Penelope) Widmore. Her father is Alvar Hanso.

On the left is a picture of Penny's father (Charles Widmore), while talking to Desmond in the car. On the right is a picture of Alvar Hanso, as seen on the Hanso Foundation website.

I believe Charles Widmore = Alvar Hanso.

Q: The man in the picture on the right has much more hair, but Alvar's bio says the picture was taken in 2003.
A: The picture could not have been taken in 2003 because it appears in the orientation video (season 2, episode 3), which is copywrited 1980. Also, according to Wikipedia:
"In an Easter egg on the foundation's website, a woman known as Persephone reveals that the last time Hanso was seen in public was in 2002. She also theorizes that you (the viewer) have seen him before."
